TJBUSMC1973. While it's a best practice to do so, I don't see any harm. In fact, the Apple article [ Remove or switch the SIM card in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support] doesn't seem to make that recommendation. Out of curiosity, you said that the Apple website seems to suggest that.
